2008 Keynote Speaker Biography

Courtney Lynch, Co-Author of "Leading from the Front"

Courtney Lynch is co-founder of Lead Star, Fairfax, Virginia-based, consulting company dedicated to the leadership development of women in corporate America, non-profit organizations, colleges and universities.  Courtney’s knowledge of the power of leadership comes from her service as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.  In the Corps, Courtney learned to lead in a highly competitive environment where 94% of her peers were men.  The US Marine Corps remains the military branch with the fewest women - out of 180,000 warriors only 1,000 are female officers.

Lead Star is the only leadership consulting company to provide military leadership techniques – by women, for women.  The company is dedicated to sharing practical leadership principles with women all across the United States.  While Courtney's business focuses on the leadership development of women, her keynote speeches are relevant to both men and women.  Courtney’s keynote remarks offer leadership wisdom that will help audience members become stronger leaders in all areas of their lives.  She’ll recount candid stories of her experiences, successes and failures as she has worked to become a stronger leader.

The core of the Lead Star philosophy is based on the fact that even though most people do not choose to serve in the military – all can benefit from the Marine Corps’ teachings, which focus on discipline, selfless service, integrity and character.  As one begins to learn to lead like a Marine, they can begin to understand how solid leadership skills can help them live a life in balance.

The hallmark of Lead Star’s curriculum is that individuals have to “Lead as they are … always.”  One doesn’t have to change who they are to be in control of their lives.  Rather, they need to embrace their strengths and improve upon their weaknesses.   Leadership, like any talent, takes time to develop.  With the proper foundation and principles in place, anyone can be a leader in all areas of their life.

In addition to founding Lead Star, Courtney Lynch is co-author of a leadership book for women, Leading From the Front, a major release from McGraw Hill.  Courtney and her business partner, Angie Morgan, have been featured guests on CNBC, FOX News, and CNNfn.  Their efforts with Lead Star have been noted in publications ranging from Fast Company to The New York Times. Courtney received her bachelor’s degree in Political Science from North Carolina State University State University and is also a graduate of the William & Mary School of Law.  Further information on Courtney and Lead Star can be found on the web at: www.leadingfromthefront.com.

“This event had a very welcome feel.
People were very friendly and conversation flowed freely.
I have attended and exhibited at events that were “stiff” and the exhibitor felt like second class to those attending. This was definitely not the case
at this forum.”
